The Fight Against AMD

Today, as we make advancements in technology, we have been able to protect ourselves from many diseases.  We have better cleaning and disinfecting products which help prevent bacteria from making us sick.  However, did you know that there is a sickness that no one can avoid?  What is this disease?


It is called AMD or Age Related Macular Degeneration.  As we age, our body tends to break down including our eyes.  Once we reach the age of 60+, our vision begins to blur because the retina starts to deteriorate.  It starts at the center and is characterized by blurred vision.  Currently there is no cure for AMD so those stricken with the disease must cope with it.  However, there is a company that is making very close to developing a treatment for AMD.  It is called Roche Diagnostics.

Roche Diagnostics is one of the largest and most reliable diagnostics company in the United States. The company manufactures diagnostic equipment’s to laboratories, hospitals and doctors around the world. However, its roots started out in the garage of a chemical engineer named Willard Bill Eason.
Roche has dedicated millions of dollars into finding out the cause of AMD and determining who is at the most risk.  The aim of the investigation is to completely understand the disease and once the disease is completely understood, it can be treated.  For the time being, you can slow the effects of AMD by taking a cocktail of specific vitamins and minerals.  However, once Roche finishes its study of the disease, it will be properly treated.
